Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Metagone C8 matrix formulation is an ophthalmic drug candidate being developed by Metagone Biotech in collaboration with Theratocular Biotek. It is a reformulation of a complement C8-targeting agent utilizing a matrix-based delivery system, pursued through the 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway specifically for the Chinese market. The drug targets complement component C8, a key constituent of the membrane attack complex (MAC) in the complement cascade. By inhibiting C8, the formulation aims to prevent complement-mediated cell lysis and inflammation in the retina, which are central to the pathogenesis of geographic atrophy secondary to dry age-related macular degeneration (dry AMD). The matrix formulation is designed to provide sustained or controlled release of the therapeutic agent, potentially reducing the frequency of administration. The program is currently in the IND-enabling and formulation development stage.
