Overview

The Metal Allergen Epicutaneous Patch is a biological diagnostic agent developed by Allerderm Laboratories for the identification of allergic contact dermatitis in adults with suspected metal contact allergy. The patch contains a standardized panel of eight metal allergens: Aluminum, Copper, Manganese, Molybdenum, Tin, Titanium, Vanadium, and Zinc. It is applied to the skin for approximately 48 hours to induce a delayed-type hypersensitivity (Type IV immune) response in sensitized individuals. Diagnostic evaluation of the test sites occurs at multiple time points post-application, typically ranging from 3 to 23 days, to observe for localized inflammatory reactions. The product was evaluated in a Phase 2 randomized, double-blind, dose-response clinical trial (NCT02615249) to assess safety and diagnostic efficacy across ascending allergen dosages.
