Overview

Metamizole + ibuprofen is a combination of two analgesic and antipyretic drugs used for the management of moderate to severe pain and fever. Metamizole (also known as dipyrone) is a non-opioid analgesic with antipyretic and spasmolytic properties, while ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that provides analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory effects. The combination has been shown in clinical studies to provide superior pain relief compared to either drug alone after surgical procedures such as molar extraction. Metamizole acts primarily by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis via prostaglandin G/H synthase 1 inhibition, whereas ibuprofen inhibits both cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), reducing the formation of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins[1][2][7]. This multimodal approach may offer additive or synergistic effects for pain control[5].
