MetaMx is a preclinical-stage synthetic molecule developed by Arch Biopartners, Inc. It is designed to selectively target brain tumor initiating cells (BTICs), a subpopulation of cancer stem cells that are often resistant to standard chemotherapy and radiation and are primarily responsible for tumor recurrence in aggressive brain cancers like glioblastoma. MetaMx functions as a dual-purpose agent: it serves as a diagnostic imaging enhancer to help clinicians visualize and identify the location of BTICs within a tumor, and as a stem cell inhibitor to disrupt the growth and survival of these cells. By targeting the unique surface markers of BTICs, MetaMx aims to improve the precision of surgical resection and provide a targeted therapeutic approach to prevent tumor regrowth.
