Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Metaraminol bitartrate is a small molecule sympathomimetic vasopressor manufactured by Wista Pharmaceutical for the management of acute hypotension and shock. It exerts its therapeutic effect through a dual mechanism of action: direct stimulation of alpha-1 adrenergic receptors and an indirect effect by promoting the release of endogenous norepinephrine from sympathetic nerve terminals. This results in potent peripheral vasoconstriction and an increase in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure, often accompanied by a reflex decrease in heart rate. Administered via intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) routes, it is primarily indicated for the prevention and treatment of acute hypotensive states, such as those occurring during spinal anesthesia, or as an adjunct in treating hypotension due to hemorrhage, surgical complications, or drug reactions.
