Drug intelligence / Profile preview
MetfoLiquid GeriaSan is an oral solution formulation of metformin, a biguanide antihyperglycemic agent. Metformin is primarily indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus, where it works by decreasing hepatic glucose production, decreasing intestinal absorption of glucose, and improving insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization. In the context of clinical trials sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim for plaque psoriasis, MetfoLiquid GeriaSan is utilized as a probe substrate for organic cation transporters (OCTs) and multidrug and toxin extrusion proteins (MATEs). Specifically, it is used in Phase 1 drug-drug interaction (DDI) studies to evaluate the effect of investigational compounds, such as the RORgamma antagonist bevurogant (BI 730357), on the pharmacokinetics of drugs cleared via these transport pathways.
