Overview

Metformin + cabergoline is a combination of two small molecule drugs used primarily in the management of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) with hyperprolactinemia. Metformin is an oral antihyperglycemic agent that improves insulin sensitivity and reduces hepatic glucose production, while cabergoline is a dopamine agonist that inhibits prolactin secretion from the pituitary gland. When used together, these agents act synergistically to reduce body mass index (BMI), serum testosterone, and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels, while increasing follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). The combination has also been shown to improve endometrial blood flow and ovulation rates in women with PCOS[1][2]. This regimen targets both metabolic dysfunction and hormonal imbalance characteristic of PCOS.
