Overview

Metformin + flutamide is a combination of two small molecule drugs, metformin and flutamide, used primarily in research and off-label clinical settings for the management of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and related metabolic or hyperandrogenic conditions. Metformin is a biguanide antihyperglycemic agent that improves insulin sensitivity, reduces hepatic glucose production, and lowers blood glucose levels. Flutamide is a nonsteroidal antiandrogen that acts as an antagonist at the androgen receptor, blocking the effects of endogenous androgens such as testosterone. The combination targets both metabolic dysfunction (insulin resistance) via metformin and hyperandrogenism via flutamide. This dual approach aims to improve cardiometabolic risk factors, reproductive-endocrine outcomes, lipid profiles, and symptoms associated with PCOS[4][1]. The combination has been studied in both animal models and human subjects with PCOS or related syndromes.
