Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination of metformin, a biguanide antihyperglycemic agent used for type 2 diabetes mellitus, and pantoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used for acid-related gastrointestinal conditions. This combination may be prescribed when patients with diabetes also have acid-related conditions or experience gastrointestinal side effects from metformin. Studies show that pantoprazole does not impair metformin's effectiveness and may actually improve beta cell function and reduce metformin's gastrointestinal side effects.
