Metformin + rosiglitazone is an oral antidiabetic combination of **metformin**, a biguanide that primarily suppresses hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity, and **rosiglitazone**, a thiazolidinedione that activates peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma to improve peripheral insulin sensitivity. The fixed-dose product is marketed as Avandamet and was approved for adjunctive treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with both components is appropriate.
