Overview

Metformin eicosapentaenoate is an orally administered small-molecule salt pairing **metformin** with **eicosapentaenoic acid** as eicosapentaenoate, developed by Thetis Pharmaceuticals as TP-101. It was investigated as a solid oral dosage form intended to deliver the glucose-lowering pharmacology of metformin together with the lipid-modulating effects associated with eicosapentaenoic acid for type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertriglyceridemia. A completed Phase 1 study compared its pharmacokinetics, safety, and tolerability with separately co-administered metformin hydrochloride and icosapent ethyl under fed and fasted conditions; the published PK analysis reported no pharmacokinetic advantage over separate administration.
