Overview

Methallenestril is a synthetic nonsteroidal estrogen and a derivative of allenolic acid and allenestrol (specifically the methyl ether of allenestrol). It was formerly used to treat menstrual issues but is no longer marketed. Methallenestril acts as an estrogen receptor agonist; it is potently estrogenic in rats but only weakly so in humans. The drug was taken orally and was available under several brand names including Vallestril (issued by G. D. Searle & Company in the 1950s). It belongs to the class of naphthalenes and functions as a hormone therapy for gynecological conditions[1][3][5].
