Methdilazine is a first-generation phenothiazine antihistamine with anticholinergic properties. It acts as a histamine H1 receptor antagonist, competing with histamine for binding at H1-receptor sites on effector cells in the gastrointestinal tract, blood vessels, and respiratory tract. This action provides temporary relief from symptoms such as sneezing, watery and itchy eyes, and runny nose due to hay fever and other upper respiratory allergies. Methdilazine is also used to relieve pruritus in various dermatoses and has moderate sedative effects due to its antimuscarinic activity[1][2][5][6].
