Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination of two medications. Methimazole is a thionamide antithyroid agent that inhibits thyroid hormone synthesis by blocking the action of thyroid peroxidase, leading to reduced hyperthyroidism. Pentoxifylline is a methylxanthine derivative that improves blood flow and circulation by making blood thinner and blood vessels wider. While methimazole is primarily used for hyperthyroidism, pentoxifylline has shown beneficial effects in thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO) by reducing inflammatory symptoms and associated laboratory parameters.
