Overview

Methiodal is a small molecule pharmaceutical drug that was used as an iodinated contrast medium for X-ray imaging procedures such as myelography (imaging of the spinal cord). It belongs to the class of organosulfonic acids and acts as a radiopaque agent by absorbing X-rays due to its iodine content. Methiodal has been associated with cases of adhesive arachnoiditis when used in myelography. It is no longer marketed anywhere in the world as of 2021[1][2][3][4][5].
