Overview

Methionine phosphinate is a synthetic small molecule analog of the amino acid methionine in which the carboxylic acid group is replaced by a phosphinic acid moiety. It has been studied primarily as an experimental compound and is not approved for clinical use. Methionine phosphinate acts as an inhibitor of methionine aminopeptidase, an enzyme responsible for removing the N-terminal methionine from nascent proteins during protein synthesis[1][6]. By inhibiting this enzyme, it can interfere with protein maturation and function. The compound has been used in biochemical research to probe enzymatic mechanisms and potential therapeutic targets related to protein processing.
