Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Methoserpidine is a synthetic yohimban alkaloid and an antihypertensive drug related to reserpine. It was used primarily in the 1960s for the treatment of arterial hypertension. Methoserpidine acts as a sympatholytic agent (antagonist of α-adrenergic vasoconstriction), similar to reserpine, and is considered an isomer or close analog of reserpine. It was initially reported to have fewer central nervous system side effects compared to reserpine[1][3][5][7]. Its mechanism involves depletion of catecholamines from peripheral sympathetic nerve endings.
