Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This drug is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of the five agents **methotrexate**, **cyclophosphamide**, **vincristine**, **prednisone**, and **doxorubicin**. Each of these agents has a distinct but complementary mechanism of antineoplastic (anticancer) action: - **Methotrexate** is an antimetabolite that inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, blocking DNA synthesis and cell replication. - **Cyclophosphamide** is an alkylating agent that crosslinks DNA, leading to impaired replication and cell death. - **Vincristine** is a vinca alkaloid that disrupts microtubule formation, impairing cell division. - **Prednisone** is a synthetic corticosteroid that induces apoptosis in certain malignant cells, particularly lymphomas. - **Doxorubicin** is an anthracycline antibiotic that intercalates into DNA, inhibits topoisomerase II, and generates free radicals, resulting in DNA strand breaks and apoptosis[2][4][6][8][13]. This combination targets cancer via multiple pathways, primarily for the treatment of lymphomas and certain solid tumors, and is administered intravenously. The regimen may be customized based on cancer type, protocol, and patient characteristics.
