Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination therapy consisting of methotrexate (MTX) and hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) primarily used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This combination has been shown to be more potent than methotrexate monotherapy. The enhanced efficacy is attributed to a pharmacokinetic interaction where hydroxychloroquine increases the bioavailability of methotrexate, resulting in higher drug exposure while potentially reducing peak concentrations that may cause acute side effects.
