Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Methotrexate-LDE is a novel formulation of the antimetabolite drug methotrexate in which the active compound is encapsulated within lipid core nanoparticles (LDE). This nanoformulation is designed to enhance delivery and reduce toxicity by mimicking low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particles, thereby facilitating targeted uptake by cells expressing LDL receptors—such as cancer cells or inflamed tissues. Methotrexate itself acts primarily as a dihydrofolate reductase inhibitor, blocking DNA synthesis and cell proliferation. The LDE formulation aims to improve pharmacokinetics and tissue selectivity compared to conventional methotrexate. Methotrexate-LDE has been investigated for use in oncology (e.g., cancer therapy) and inflammatory diseases.
