Overview

Methoxamine is a small molecule that functions as a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor agonist. It is being investigated for its effects on mean anal resting pressure, as well as for its use as a vasopressor to prevent and treat hypotension in various surgical settings, including during spinal anesthesia for cesarean deliveries and carotid endarterectomy. Additionally, its potential role in conditions like tourniquet shock, myocardial injury, gastrointestinal neoplasms, postoperative cognitive dysfunction, and gastric cancer is under exploration. Early research also suggests its involvement in central alpha-1 adrenoceptor activity related to narcolepsy.
