Methscopolamine is a semisynthetic quaternary ammonium derivative of scopolamine and acts as an antimuscarinic (anticholinergic) agent. It works primarily by blocking muscarinic acetylcholine receptors (notably M1, M2, and M3 subtypes), thereby inhibiting the action of acetylcholine in the parasympathetic nervous system. This results in reduced gastric acid secretion, decreased gastrointestinal motility, inhibition of salivary excretion, and other anticholinergic effects such as pupil dilation and blurred vision. Methscopolamine is used mainly as adjunct therapy for peptic ulcers to reduce symptoms by decreasing stomach acid production; it does not heal ulcers but helps control their symptoms. It may also be used off-label for conditions like motion sickness or to prevent nausea and vomiting[1][2][3][4][5][6][8].
