Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Methyl-beta-cyclodextrin is a methylated derivative of β-cyclodextrin, used primarily as an excipient to enhance the solubility and bioavailability of poorly water-soluble drugs. It is known for its ability to form inclusion complexes, which can solubilize hydrophobic substances, and is used in drug delivery systems. Methyl-beta-cyclodextrin also has cholesterol-removing properties, making it useful for applications such as disrupting lipid rafts and modulating membrane dynamics. Additionally, it acts as an actin depolymerizer, affecting cellular processes like focal adhesion and intracellular drug accumulation.
