Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Methyl grevillate (MetG) is a nature-identical synthetic cinnamic acid derivative that acts as a selective inhibitor of *Plasmodium falciparum* histone deacetylase 1 (PfHDAC1). Originally identified through virtual screening of natural compound libraries, methyl grevillate exhibits stereospecific, multi-stage antimalarial activity against both asexual and sexual (gametocyte) erythrocytic stages, as well as the pathogenic liver stage of the malaria parasite. Preclinical evaluations demonstrate potent in vitro and in vivo efficacy against drug-sensitive and drug-resistant strains of *P. falciparum* and *P. berghei*, with negligible cytotoxicity in human cells.
