Overview
NAL1243 is a transdermal patch formulation containing a combination of methyl salicylate and menthol, developed by NAL Pharmaceutical Group for pain management. It is designed as an over-the-counter (OTC) product with a 12-hour release profile. The drug acts through a dual mechanism: methyl salicylate serves as a topical analgesic by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes to reduce prostaglandin synthesis, while menthol acts as a counterirritant by activating the Transient Receptor Potential Melastatin 8 (TRPM8) channel, producing a cooling sensation and providing additional analgesic effects. The product is currently in preclinical development.
