Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Methyl vanillate is a benzoate ester that is the methyl ester of vanillic acid. It acts as an antioxidant and a plant metabolite. It has been identified in foods such as cow's milk and beer, and is also found in plant extracts like Hovenia dulcis Thunb. Methyl vanillate can be synthesized from vanillic acid. In research settings, it has been shown to activate the Wnt/β-catenin pathway, increasing bone mass in animal models by promoting β-catenin expression and nuclear translocation in osteoblasts[1][5][7].
