Overview

Methylated levorin is a chemically transformed macrocyclic polyene antibiotic and an alkyl derivative of the original antibiotic levorin. It has been shown to possess greater biological activity than levorin. In in vitro studies, methylated levorin demonstrated antitumor action against C6 (rat glioma) and HeLa (human cervical carcinoma) cell cultures, suggesting its potential as an antineoplastic agent. Its mechanism of action is likely related to its effects on lipid and biological membranes, characteristic of polyene antibiotics.
