Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Methylenedioxyethamphetamine, also known as MDEA or "Eve," is an empathogenic psychoactive drug belonging to the substituted amphetamine and methylenedioxyphenethylamine classes. It is often referred to as a "rave" or "designer" drug and is produced in clandestine laboratories for illicit use. MDEA acts as a serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine releasing agent and reuptake inhibitor, leading to increased extracellular levels of these monoamines. It can induce dose-related hyperthermia and has been shown to cause neurotoxic effects, particularly in serotonergic neurons, including reduced serotonin content and transporter density. MDEA is an illegal recreational drug in most countries and has no accepted medical uses, carrying risks of severe adverse health effects such as serotonin syndrome, cardiovascular issues, and potentially fatal outcomes from overdose.
