Methylinositol is a naturally occurring compound, a derivative of inositol, that has been isolated from various plant sources such as Paullinia pinnata, Rumex patientia, Cassia angustifolia, and Ebenus haussknechtii. It has demonstrated diverse biological activities, including antityphoid and radical scavenging (antioxidant) properties. In plants, methylinositol derivatives, such as D-ononitol, are involved in responses to salinity stress. Additionally, 2-O-methylinositol has been studied for its ability to inhibit phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C enzymes.
