Overview

Methylliberine (marketed as Dynamine) is a naturally occurring purine alkaloid structurally related to caffeine and theacrine. It is found in certain coffee species and Kuding extract. Methylliberine acts primarily as an adenosine receptor antagonist or modulator—reducing adenosine receptor sensitivity—which promotes energy and mental alertness by preventing adenosine from binding to its receptors in the brain. This mechanism is similar to caffeine but with a different affinity profile; unlike caffeine’s direct antagonism of the adenosine receptor, methylliberine modifies sensitivity rather than fully blocking it[3][5]. Additionally, methylliberine may act as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor, increasing dopamine levels in the brain and potentially enhancing mood and cognitive performance[5]. It has rapid onset compared to caffeine and is often used in combination with other stimulants like TeaCrine (theacrine) or caffeine for enhanced effects[1][4][8]. Methylliberine is primarily marketed as an ingredient for dietary supplements aimed at boosting energy, focus, mood, and exercise performance.
