Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Methylphenidate hydrochloride OROS is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant that uses the Osmotic-Controlled Release Oral Delivery System (OROS) technology for extended-release delivery. It blocks the reuptake of dopamine and noradrenaline (norepinephrine) into the presynaptic neuron, increasing the availability of these neurotransmitters in the synaptic cleft. The OROS delivery system features an osmotically active trilayer core surrounded by a semipermeable membrane with an immediate-release drug overcoat (22% of the dose) and a precision-laser drilled orifice. This provides an initial immediate release followed by controlled release over 10-12 hours, allowing for once-daily dosing.
