Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Methylphenidate transdermal patch is a central nervous system (CNS) stimulant indicated for the treatment of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It utilizes a multi-layer adhesive matrix system to deliver methylphenidate systemically through the skin. The drug acts by inhibiting the reuptake of norepinephrine and dopamine into the presynaptic neuron and increasing the release of these monoamines into the extraneuronal space. Developed by Noven Pharmaceuticals and marketed as Daytrana, it provides a continuous release of medication, typically applied for 9 hours to provide a 12-hour effect, offering an alternative to oral stimulants for patients who have difficulty swallowing pills or require a specific wear-time flexibility.
