Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Methylphenidate transdermal system is a patch formulation used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It's a central nervous system stimulant that works by increasing levels of natural brain chemicals like norepinephrine and dopamine, which play important roles in attention, focus, and impulse control. This medication is used as part of a comprehensive treatment program that also includes social, educational, and psychological interventions. The patch delivers medication through the skin over a 9-hour period and comes in four different strengths: 10 mg/9 hours (1.1 mg/hr), 15 mg/9 hours (1.6 mg/hr), 20 mg/9 hours (2.2 mg/hr), and 30 mg/9 hours (3.3 mg/hr). It's designed to be applied to the hip area 2 hours before an effect is needed and removed after 9 hours, though it can be removed earlier if a shorter duration of effect is desired.
