Methylprednisolone + ibuprofen is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents used for their synergistic anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. Methylprednisolone is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid that suppresses inflammation and modulates immune responses by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, thereby inhibiting pro-inflammatory gene expression. Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces pain, fever, and inflammation primarily by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, which are involved in prostaglandin synthesis. The combination has been studied for short-term use in conditions such as postoperative pain and swelling, demonstrating significant reductions in both parameters compared to placebo[2]. However, concurrent use increases the risk of gastrointestinal toxicity—including ulcers and bleeding—due to additive effects on the gastric mucosa[1][3][4][7]. This combination should be used with caution under medical supervision.
