Overview

Methylprednisolone + norepinephrine is a combination therapy being evaluated for its efficacy in reducing postoperative complications in patients undergoing surgery for lower limb fractures. Methylprednisolone is a synthetic corticosteroid that exerts anti-inflammatory effects by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, thereby inhibiting the synthesis of inflammatory mediators and stabilizing lysosomal membranes. Norepinephrine is a sympathomimetic amine that acts as a potent peripheral vasoconstrictor and inotropic stimulator through its action on alpha-1, alpha-2, and beta-1 adrenergic receptors. In the context of orthopedic surgery, this combination is intended to maintain hemodynamic stability and suppress the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) triggered by surgical trauma, potentially reducing the incidence of postoperative cognitive dysfunction and improving recovery outcomes.
