This investigational combination therapy consists of the synthetic corticosteroid methylprednisolone and autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP), administered via intratympanic injection. Developed and evaluated at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalpindi, the treatment is designed for patients suffering from sensorineural hearing loss (SNHL) and tinnitus of cochlear origin. Methylprednisolone provides potent anti-inflammatory effects to reduce cochlear stress, while the autologous PRP serves as a biologic medium rich in growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and insulin-like growth factor (IGF). These factors are intended to promote tissue repair and regeneration within the inner ear structures, such as the cochlea, by enhancing local healing processes that are otherwise limited by the ear's end-artery blood supply.
