Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This experimental treatment regimen, evaluated by the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon for anserine bursitis, consists of a local infiltration of methylprednisolone acetate and lidocaine (Xylocaine) in conjunction with a 10-day course of oral diclofenac sodium. Methylprednisolone acetate is a synthetic corticosteroid that acts as a glucocorticoid receptor agonist, exerting potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects. Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that blocks voltage-gated sodium channels, providing immediate symptomatic relief at the site of infiltration. Diclofenac sodium is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), thereby reducing the production of pro-inflammatory prostaglandins. This multi-modal approach targets both local and systemic inflammatory pathways to treat pes anserine bursitis.
