This is a combination of two pharmaceutical agents, methylprednisolone acetate and ropivacaine, used primarily for local infiltration at surgical sites to provide enhanced postoperative analgesia. Methylprednisolone acetate is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It acts by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, inhibiting pro-inflammatory signals (such as NF-kappa B), reducing capillary permeability, and suppressing leukocyte migration[6]. Ropivacaine is an amide-type local anesthetic that works by blocking sodium channels on nerve fibers, thereby inhibiting the initiation and conduction of nerve impulses responsible for pain sensation[3][8]. The combination has been shown in clinical studies to reduce postoperative pain scores and opioid consumption when administered locally at wound closure after surgeries such as laminoplasty or laminectomy[1][4]. This dual approach leverages both anti-inflammatory effects (from methylprednisolone) and direct neural blockade (from ropivacaine) for superior analgesic outcomes.
