Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Methylprednisolone injection is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It acts primarily as an agonist of the glucocorticoid receptor, suppressing the production of inflammatory mediators such as cytokines and prostaglandins. Available in various injectable formulations, including methylprednisolone acetate (Depo-Medrol) and methylprednisolone sodium succinate (Solu-Medrol), it is widely used to treat acute and chronic inflammatory and autoimmune disorders. In clinical trials, such as one conducted by Alexandria University, local perineural injection of methylprednisolone (misspelled as 'mehylprednisolone' in trial records) has been evaluated for the treatment of mild to moderate idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome to reduce inflammation around the median nerve.
