Overview
Metiny is a modified-release oral film-coated tablet formulation of the second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, cefaclor. Developed by the MERAP Group (now rebranded as MerapLion), it utilizes modified-release technology to alter the drug's release profile, allowing for potentially improved dosing schedules compared to immediate-release formulations. Cefaclor exerts its bactericidal effect by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby inhibiting the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis in bacterial cell walls, leading to cell lysis. Metiny is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including acute bronchitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, pneumonia, sinusitis, uncomplicated lower urinary tract infections, and skin and skin structure infections.
