Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Metobra is a preservative-free ophthalmic solution containing the aminoglycoside antibiotic tobramycin. Developed by the Vietnamese healthcare company MerapLion (formerly MERAP Group) in collaboration with Lion Corporation (Japan), the product utilizes specialized formulation technology to deliver the medication without the use of traditional preservatives like benzalkonium chloride. This design is intended to reduce ocular surface irritation and toxicity, making it particularly suitable for patients with sensitive eyes or those requiring frequent administration. Tobramycin provides broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against common ocular pathogens by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit, which disrupts bacterial protein synthesis. It is primarily indicated for the treatment of external bacterial infections of the eye and its adnexa.
