Overview

This entry refers to a comparative clinical study (NCT05586763) sponsored by the Oman Medical Speciality Board evaluating the efficacy of three distinct antiemetic agents—metoclopramide, promethazine, and prochloroperazine—for the treatment of acute peripheral vertigo in an emergency department setting. Metoclopramide is a dopamine D2 receptor antagonist and prokinetic; promethazine is a first-generation H1 antihistamine with significant anticholinergic properties; and prochloroperazine is a phenothiazine-class dopamine D2 receptor antagonist. The Phase 3 trial aimed to determine which of these intramuscularly administered medications provides superior symptom relief for patients aged 18-60 presenting with vertigo-associated nausea or vomiting.
