Overview

Metopon is a semisynthetic opioid analgesic, also known chemically as methyldihydromorphinone. It is a derivative of morphinan, structurally related to morphine and hydromorphone, and acts primarily as an agonist at the mu-opioid receptor. Like other opioids, it exhibits potent analgesic (pain-relieving) properties and is classified as a narcotic analgesic. Developed in the 20th century, it was investigated for pain management; its clinical use is limited and it is classified as a controlled substance due to its potential for abuse and dependence[2][5][8].
