Overview
Metosol, also known as Metobacteriosis Ear Canal Spray, is a microbial-derived therapeutic dressing developed for the treatment of fungal otitis externa (otomycosis). Developed in China and evaluated in clinical trials by the West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Metosol is designed to restore the microecological balance of the external auditory canal. Unlike traditional antifungal agents such as fluconazole, Metosol utilizes microbial metabolites or lysates to inhibit the growth of pathogenic fungi and promote mucosal repair. It is administered as a topical spray and is currently being studied in Phase 4 trials to compare its efficacy and safety against standard-of-care antifungal and antiseptic treatments.
