metralindole

Metralindole is a heterocyclic β-carboline derivative classified as a tetracyclic antidepressant. It was developed and used primarily in Russia as an antidepressant agent. Metralindole acts as a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase A (RIMA), increasing the levels of monoamine neurotransmitters such as serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain. This mechanism is similar to that of moclobemide but with its own distinct chemical structure. The drug appears as an off-white odorless powder with a bitter taste and is soluble in water[6][9].
