Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a combination therapy consisting of metronidazole (an antibiotic), prednisone (a corticosteroid), and vancomycin (an antibiotic). The combination has been used in the treatment of steroid-refractory ulcerative colitis, particularly when complicated by *Clostridium difficile* infection. Metronidazole is an antibiotic effective against anaerobic bacteria, prednisone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation, and vancomycin is an antibiotic primarily used against gram-positive bacteria. In cases of *C. difficile* infection with concurrent ulcerative colitis, this combination therapy has shown effectiveness when single agents failed to resolve symptoms.
