Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Metronidazole + diloxanide furoate is a fixed-dose combination of two antiprotozoal agents used primarily for the treatment of intestinal amoebiasis. Metronidazole, a nitroimidazole derivative, acts as a tissue amoebicide by diffusing into the organism and causing DNA strand breakage through the formation of reactive intermediates in anaerobic environments. Diloxanide furoate is a luminal amoebicide that is highly effective against the cyst forms of *Entamoeba histolytica* within the bowel lumen. This combination provides a comprehensive therapeutic approach by targeting both the invasive trophozoites and the luminal cysts of the parasite. It is manufactured as a generic product by Chemidrug Industries in Nepal for the treatment of parasitic and protozoal intestinal infections.
