Drug intelligence / Profile preview
ARMER-10 is a topical combination antimicrobial ointment developed and marketed by Stadchem (Stadchem of India). It contains metronidazole (1% w/w), a nitroimidazole antibiotic, and povidone-iodine (5% w/w), a broad-spectrum antiseptic. Metronidazole acts as an anaerobicide by generating toxic free radicals that disrupt bacterial DNA synthesis in anaerobic environments. Povidone-iodine acts as an aerobicide by slowly releasing iodine, which oxidizes microbial proteins, fatty acids, and nucleic acids, leading to cell death. Together, they provide comprehensive protection against a wide range of aerobic and anaerobic bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and viruses. ARMER-10 is primarily indicated for the treatment and prevention of wound infections, burns, diabetic foot ulcers, and pressure sores.
