Overview
**MEVAC™ IBD 818** is a live-intermediate plus monovalent vaccine developed by Kemin Biologics for active immunization of commercial chickens against classic and very virulent strains of Infectious Bursal Disease virus (IBDV), an acute immunosuppressive disease caused by a non-enveloped, bi-segmented double-stranded RNA virus from the Birnaviridae family. The vaccine targets the VP2 capsid protein, the major host-protective antigen that elicits neutralizing antibodies, providing early and reliable protection despite maternal-derived antibodies, thus mitigating bursal lymphocyte depletion, secondary infections, and economic losses in poultry production. Administered via drinking water from 12 days of age, it is packed in vials containing 500 to 5,000 doses and is contraindicated in immunosuppressed birds.[1][4][10]
