Overview
MEVAC RVF is a veterinary vaccine developed by Middle East for Vaccines (MEVAC) for the active immunization of ruminants, including cattle, sheep, and goats, against Rift Valley Fever (RVF). RVF is a significant viral zoonotic disease caused by the Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV), which is transmitted by mosquitoes and can lead to severe clinical disease, high mortality in young animals, and widespread 'abortion storms' in livestock. The vaccine is formulated as an inactivated viral suspension, typically adjuvanted with aluminum hydroxide to enhance the immune response. By using an inactivated platform, MEVAC RVF provides a safe alternative to live-attenuated vaccines, eliminating the risk of viral reversion or accidental transmission to humans while effectively stimulating protective humoral and cellular immunity in the target species.
